The Terrorism Act 2000 has itself been the subject of significant amendment by the Anti-Terrorism,Crime and Security Act 2001;for example, sections 24-31 were repealed. There are indications of possible further legislation specific to terrorism in 2007. At the time of writing no Bill has been published. There have been several detailed amendments to the Terrorism Act 2000 during 2006. |

The Definition of Terrorism: A report by Lord Carlile, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation (07/06/2007)There is no universally accepted definition of terrorism. Defining what 'terrorism' means is of real practical importance. It triggers many powers, as well as contributing to the description of offences. The report was produced by the government's independent reviewer of terrorism laws, Lord Carlile of Berriew, and makes a number of recommendations, including slightly amending the current UK definition of terrorism. |
