Home Secretary's response to Lord Carlile of Berriew's first review of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005

The Home Secretary has responded to Lord Carlile's first review of the operation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005.

The Home Secretary said 'I am grateful to you for such a considered review. I welcome both your overall conclusion that  as a "last resort" the control order system as currently operated is a "justifiable and proportional safety valve for the proper protection of civil society",  and your procedural recommendations as to how the Government can improve the system.'
