The Home Office is seeking outline research and development proposals against particular broad unclassified chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) research requirements for commissioning projects early in financial year 2009/2010.

Funding has been identified for short, focussed projects of up to 18 months duration that have the potential to demonstrate a significant change in knowledge or capability, or proof-of-principle of new concepts. The total available funding is likely to be around £3m. Closing date for outline proposals is 1 February 2009.

The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Science and Technology Programme is a Home Office led cross-government research programme. Its aim is to use science to enhance the UK response to an incident involving the use, or threatened use, of CBRN material.

The Home Office works in partnership with other Government Departments and Agencies to identify, prioritise and manage cross-government CBRN research in line with the UK Security and counter Terrorism Science and Innovation strategy published in 2007.

Details of the scope of the 2009 call and guidance on submitting proposals are available to download.
