Counter-terrorism strategy
Working with partners
The UK does not have one department that looks after all aspects of counter-terrorism.
Instead we take advantage of the expertise and resources of other departments, agencies, and wider organisations such as the emergency services and bring them together to work on specific aspects of the delivering the counter-terrorism strategy.
The advantage is that departments, agencies and first responders maintain and benefit from their skills on a day-to-day basis but can also use this in a response to a terrorist incident.
Keeping up with changing technology
In order to change the way we collect communications data, the government has set up the Interception Modernisation Programme (IMP). The programme looks at how we can continue to use important data to protect the public in the future, as internet-based communications technology becomes increasingly popular.
